Enjoy the pleasantly warm Cayman Islands weather

It might seem like the Cayman Islands’ weather and climate are always perfect, but it does rain in this beach paradise at certain times of the year. It's important to know the prevailing weather conditions so your vacation won't be spoiled by less than perfect weather. Read on to learn all you need to know about the Cayman Islands' weather and climate.

Cayman Islands' Temperature

You'll never have a problem with the temperature in the Cayman Islands, which is pleasant and warm the whole year round. Despite its nearness to the equator at 19-20° North latitude, the islands remain temperate because of cooling trade winds that keep the temperature from rising to uncomfortable levels. The average high temperature lies between 80°F (26.7°C) and 88°F (31°C) and the average low temperature ranges from 72°F (22.2°C) to 80°F (26.7°C). December to mid-April is tourist season in the Cayman Islands because the weather is so perfectly warm and dry. Although temperatures rise May through August, the air is always fresh and the breezes coming in off the water help to keep things cool. The temperature starts cooling off again in September, though the fall months of September, October and November often have rain.

Winter/Dry Season:

If you want the least chance of rain, come to the Cayman Islands in March or April as these are the driest months of the year, with only occasional light rain showers. Accommodation rates are higher though and there are usually more people on the beach during these months. Winter in the Cayman Islands is dry, starting from mid-December and ending in mid-April. Humidity is low, with a day temperature averaging at 75°F (23.9°C) and a night temperature of 68°F (20°C).

Summer/Wet Season:

If you want the beach all to yourself, visit the Cayman Islands during the Summer/Wet Season, also known as the "hurricane season." Don't worry though, because despite the name, rain usually only lasts for a few minutes to an hour, and usually falls in the afternoon. During this time of the year, from May to November, the temperature averages 83°F (28.3°C). Accommodation rates are cheaper and only a very small number of people are present at the beaches during this period. The summer or wet season is also the best time for diving because the water is crystal-clear and water currents are weak.

Hurricane Tip:

If you are visiting the Cayman Islands during hurricane season, which starts officially on June 1 and ends on November 30, it's advisable to get weather updates from satellite forecasts. Big storms are rare but when they do occur, they can cause flooding. Records show that major storms happen only every nine years. There's no reason to worry because in the Cayman Islands regular satellite forecasts will give you ample time to prepare.

Weather and climate in the Cayman Islands is remarkably stable. It is not surprising that so many tourists choose the Cayman Islands as their vacation destination. If you’re not sensitive to a little heat and humidity and you are okay with short summer rains, then Cayman’s tropical climate and weather is perfect for you.
